Diane Liebsch, BOE Vice President

Diane Liebsch

Diane Liebsch has been on the board for 10 years and is in her 3rd term!  She officially retired from her job last year as a private school principal after 44 wonderful years in the field of education!

Diane’s husband, Rich, grew up in Atchison and they met during her freshman year at Benedictine College.  In our 46th year of marriage, they enjoy visiting their children and five grandchildren in Westmoreland, Kansas, Colorado Springs, and Denver. She enjoys her volunteer roles in Girl Scouts. the International Forest of Friendship, and the annual Amelia Earhart Festival. Serving her church and its ministries is important to her as well. She is a member of Atchison Rotary, she enjoys talking books with her Book Club, and spend time with sewing projects.

When asked why Diane continues to run for USD 409, she said, “A community is only as strong as its schools. Atchison is my hometown and was a wonderful place to raise our family. Its schools should always be a source of pride for all those who live in this community. My years in the classroom at Atchison Middle School and as principal at St. Benedict has provided me with a lens into classrooms and an educator's perspective on all Board tasks.”

Her hopes for the future of USD 409 are to continue moving forward as the district has in so many ways over the last few years.  “We are a leader in the state in the area of technology use in the classroom.  The curriculum is never stagnated in our district and our teachers are continually embracing new researched-based methods of teaching.  The district as a whole embraces the idea of continual improvement in educating children in our community. Another focus for the coming year is analyzing our facilities and ensuring our students have suitable learning environments.”

She wants the community to know that she is passionate about our hometown and its children.

It has always been her desire to promote pride in Atchison through teaching and leading.  Continuing to provide avenues for teachers and administrators to create learning environments that provide outlets for students to create, to lead, to learn, to grow, to collaborate is a personal goal.
